Galicia has handed over the coordination of the tourist destination “España Verde” to Cantabria after a year in which the Galician community worked to strengthen its international projection and consolidate the brand. The transfer ceremony was held at the Galicia stand during the first professional day of FITUR 2025 and was attended by the general director of Turespaña, Miguel Sanz.
The director of Tourism of Galicia, Xosé Merelles, handed over the coordination to the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Cantabrian Government, Luis Martínez Abad, highlighting the progress made during the Galician administration. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), in 2024 the “Green Spain” destination received 19.8 million visitors, which represents an increase of 16% compared to the previous year.
The growth of “Green Spain” has been accompanied by a strong boost in its recognition outside our borders. The growing attraction that the destination generates in markets such as Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States stands out, where more and more travelers choose northern Spain for its combination of nature, coast, gastronomy, heritage and culture.
The transfer of coordination to Cantabria marks the beginning of a new stage for the destination, which will continue working on its positioning as a unique option for travelers seeking authenticity and unique landscapes.
