Once again, the Cluster believes that public-private collaboration is the right way to strengthen an accommodation offer consistent with Galicia’s commitment to a sustainable and quality destination.
The General Assembly of the Galicia Tourism Cluster has just approved, in an extraordinary session held yesterday in the City of Culture of Galicia, the admission as a new associated entity of the Association of Tourist Housing of Galicia (AVITURGA).
Prior to this meeting of the supreme collegiate body of the Cluster, a monthly meeting of the Executive Council of the entity took place, in which it was agreed to request the regional administration to create a public-private working group to lead a process of revision and updating of the regulations governing tourist housing.
The objective is none other than the equalisation of the legal requirements to be met by this type of accommodation with respect to other regulated establishments. With this measure, the Cluster does not intend to limit the activity of small owners, but rather to prevent large investors from opting for tourist accommodation to the detriment of other types of accommodation, which are subject to stricter regulations.
Although the publication of Decree 12/2017, of 26 January, was a first step that made it possible to identify and dimension the supply of tourist accommodations in Galicia, it is essential to update the regulations governing this accommodations to bring it into line with the rest of the sector in terms of duties, as well as to delve into the problems that arise in certain destinations and times of the year in terms of the tourist load and coexistence with residents.
The Galicia Tourism Cluster, as a party involved in the development of the Master Plan 2021-2023 Galicia Safe Destination, firmly believes in the commitment to a safe, innovative, sustainable destination that places quality as a sign of identity. In order to achieve this vision, it is necessary that all agents in the Galician tourism ecosystem compete on equal terms.
