The Tourism Cluster brings the ‘Galicia Sustainable Destination’ initiative to national and foreign travel agencies through a familiarization trip

  • For three days, travel agency representatives enjoyed some of the sustainable tourism experiences offered by the platform.
  • Last Thursday, September 21, a workshop was organized, in which 20 of the participating companies participated, and which was closed by the president of the Cluster and the director of Tourism of Galicia.
  • Galicia Sustainable Destination now includes 74 companies that offer 150 products committed to the good use of natural resources and support for culture, historical heritage and tradition.

Representatives of eight national and foreign travel agencies participated last week in the familiarization trip, organized by the Galician Tourism Cluster, to learn about the Galicia Sustainable Destination initiative. This platform, promoted by the Cluster in collaboration with the Xunta, seeks to integrate the sustainable tourism offer of the Community and already has more than 74 member companies and 150 products available on the galiciadestinostible.com portal.

The familiarization trip began on Wednesday in Ribeiro, and continued on Thursday in Cambados and A Toxa with an agenda that included views of emblematic places, wine tasting, different gastronomic experiences and activities such as bread workshops, astrotourism or seafood, all of them integrated into the Galicia Sustainable Destination offer.

Thursday’s day ended with a workshop in which 20 of the companies integrated into the platform had the opportunity to explain their offer in detail to the representatives of the invited travel agencies.

This meeting was closed by the president of the Galicia Tourism Cluster, Cesáreo Pardal, and the director of Galicia Tourism, Xosé Merelles. The head of the Cluster highlighted “the good reception that the initiative had by the sector” and stressed that “we firmly believe in this project because it is a demand of the new tourist profile and because without sustainable development there is no future.”

For his part, Xosé Merelles highlighted the commitment of the Xunta de Galicia to sustainable tourism “when we started, in July 2021, we were very clear that Galicia was called to be a power in the tourism of the future, in which sustainability, “Innovation and excellence, as well as contact with the local, play a crucial role. We are on the right track.”

During the day on Friday, to close the famtrip, a nautical tourism activity and a walk through the old town of the city of Pontevedra were carried out.
