Activities

Diving and nautical activities as a seasonal and diversifying element for Galicia. Under this premise Tourism of Galicia has advanced the first steps for our territory to join the European project’ Wildsea Europe’ in which the Galician Community participates with the United Kingdom, Ireland and Portugal with the aim of creating the first European route of sustainable diving tourism.
It would be a European itinerary that would allow connecting “first class” diving sites by establishing synergies with nautical sports, wine and gastronomy, marine tourism and maritime archaeology. The project will make it possible, as explained by the Xunta, to combine it with nautical activities that will include kayaking along the Galician estuaries, whale watching or even activities to discover maritime heritage formed by galleons, merchants or fishing boats submerged in the depths.
“It is a perfect opportunity in which Galicia will offer its personality and uniqueness as a destination and also experience in the implementation of products linked to the sea, which can enrich this new international itinerary,”stressed the director of Tourism of Galicia, Nava Castro during the presentation of the initiative, in the framework of which have begun to hold working tables with the participation of representatives of the sector.
The Wildsea Atlantic Ocean Heritage Route (WAOH! Route) project is financially supported by the European Union, which provides €375,000 of the investment for its implementation and is born “to strengthen Europe as a high quality sustainable destination that is capable of creating a shared identity based on marine habitats and the extensive underwater heritage of the Atlantic”.
