The regional government has approved the reorganisation of these territories, which will increase from 14 to 26.

Galicia now has a new map of geodestinations. A decade after the approval of the first delimitation of these geographical areas, the regional government has just approved a new division, which aims to deepen the value of these areas “as poles of tourism development at the local level and as coordinating and executing agents of a holistic destination management for the entire territory they cover”. The new map represents a substantial modification of the previous one, as it incorporates 12 more destinations, which means that the total number of destinations has almost doubled from 14 to 26.

The Xunta explains that the map was drawn up by the Galicia Tourism Agency in collaboration with the municipalities and that it has defined “geographical areas or spaces that share a territorial homogeneity based on their natural, heritage and cultural tourist resources, with the capacity to generate tourist flows and which, together with their population, make up a differentiated and unique tourist identity that is in continuous evolution”.

They also point out that the map in force so far has allowed a leap in quality tourism experiences, specialized and quality contributing to enrich the uniqueness and differentiation of Galicia as a multidestination.
