The Alfonso IX Hotel in Sarria hosted this year the annual festival of the hotel industry in the province of Lugo which brought together more than 150 professionals in the sector and which also delivered the awards that the Apehl annually gives people with a long career in the sector or to organizations that support the dissemination and promotion of gastronomy and tourism in the province of Lugo.
The president of the Provincial Association of Hotel and Tourism Businessmen of Lugo (APEHL), Cheché Real, was in charge of handing over the Association’s Gold Medal to the CD Lugo while the two prizes of Hotel Ambassador of the Province 2019 went to Quique Rodríguez, sous chef of the Villa Magna Hotel in Madrid, editor of contents for different specialized media and technical director of the juries of the Monforte Tapas Summit and the Lugo Tapas Competition, and for the founders of the Celtic Pig Stew Festival of the Sarria Region.
Likewise, the association of hostaleros lucenses also paid tribute to the trajectory of five associated establishments: Toda una vida en los fogones a Pulpería Breogán, from Lugo; el Restaurante Verruga, from Lugo; el Bar Anda, from Lugo; la Cafetería Santiago, from Sarria, and el Asador Caracacho, from Monterroso.
Cheché Real thanked the confidence of the partners in the work of the Association, remembered that they have been working 42 years and enumerated that “to continue improving our social and economic reality, to guarantee the viability and the day to day of our businesses, to learn some of the others sharing our experiences and to form to us and to be to the day of the last innovations of the sector they have to continue being our objectives”.
The meeting was attended by a large number of authorities from both the Xunta and the Diputación de Lugo and the mayor of Sarria, Pilar López. Other representatives of Lugo and Galician society and politics were also present, among them the territorial delegate of the Xunta de Galicia in Lugo, José Manuel Balseiro; the secretary of the Bureau of the Galician Parliament, Raquel Arias; the head of the Provincial Tourism area in Lugo, Paloma Vázquez; the president of the Galician Tourism Cluster, Cesáreo Pardal, and the president of the Provincial Federation of Neighbourhood Associations Lucus Augusti, Jesús Vázquez Varela.
