The Galician thermal sector continues to gain prominence with the recognition of the Caldaria group as the first entity in the thermal field to adhere to the Galicia Calidade seal, a distinction that guarantees excellence and professionalism in the management of services in the community. This important milestone was celebrated last week in an event that included the participation of the president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, the director of Tourism of Galicia, Xosé Manuel Merelles, and the vice president of the Tourism Cluster of Galicia, Jesús Picallo Santos, among other authorities.
During the delivery, Galicia’s leadership as one of the main thermal powers in Europe was highlighted, thanks to its abundant reserves of mineral-medicinal waters and an offer of more than 20 spas, which represent 20% of the total in Spain. This natural wealth makes the community a reference destination both nationally and internationally.
In this framework, Alfonso Rueda announced the launch of a new Thermal Plan during 2025, with an investment of 8 million euros. This project’s main objective is to consolidate thermalism as a strategic pillar of Galician tourism, reinforcing the quality of the existing offer and promoting new initiatives. Among the measures contemplated, the creation of new establishments, the modernization of current facilities, the implementation of quality standards through a manual of good practices, and the promotion of training and specialized marketing actions stand out.
In addition, the Plan provides for the creation of an observatory for tourism research, which will allow the development of new products and experiences adapted to the demands of visitors. These actions not only seek to preserve the natural and cultural heritage linked to thermalism, but also to boost local economies and position Galicia as a sustainable and competitive destination.
