The Botanical Garden, the Carballeira and ‘ the crybabies’ of Caldas de Reis, a 3.5-hectare natural complex located on the banks of the Umia river, obtained Observer certification . This recognition places it as a botanical tourism destination for the value of its natural heritage and for its management and conservation.
The Observer certificate was created with the objective of promoting and improving the quality of experiences related to scientific tourism. From this success, it grants value and visibility by adding science, scientific dissemination and tourism.
The aforementioned Botanical Garden, created in 1883, has 200 trees, two of which are included in the Catalog of Galician Trees: Araucaria angustifolia and Cunninghamia lanceolata. A Carballeira, declared Joint within the same Catalogue, has a black of 200 carballos, moitos of them with more than a century of life.
Another two elements that should be highlighted in the cultural heritage of the area are the sculptural monuments of the natural setting, with busts of figures of great relevance to the village and others dedicated to figures such as the Apostle Santiago, as well as a plaque in honor of the enlightened scientist Francisco José from Caldas.
This distinction is added to other recognitions that have been given to the natural space of Caldas de Reis as a Good of Cultural Interest (BIC) or a Q of Tourist Quality as a Singular Public Space.
