From 17 to 19 November Expourense hosts the first edition of the Sports and Active Tourism Show, an initiative that seeks to promote Galicia as an active and healthy destination and promote the many options that this community offers for sports fans and outdoor activities while encouraging the Galicians themselves to practice them. In fact, the celebration of this show coincides with the celebration of the massive Carrera Popular de San Martiño, whose participants will collect their numbers in the fairgrounds.
A programme with more than 100 activities makes this event the showcase of the federations and sports clubs in the community through the 121 participating exhibitors, 32 of which correspond to clubs and associations of different sports that will take advantage of their presence in the show to promote themselves by organizing different exhibitions, trainings or championships. The exhibitors of this first edition come from all over the Galician Community and also from Portugal, highlighting the important presence of the Tourism Entity Porto y Norte that summoned in this event to a good part of its partners, 21 in total.
Organized by Expourense and with the collaboration of the Galician Tourism Agency and the General Secretariat for Sport, Sportur Galicia aspires to become a meeting point for the sector where they have space from town halls or other entities that want to promote their resources related to this sector (walking routes or aquatic routes, sports facilities, races, walks, etc.), to companies of equipment for sport and adventure or specialized in the sale of sports equipment. In fact, it will also be a business center where the organization of the 1st Workshop of Active Tourism in Galicia will be highlighted, with the participation of specialized travel wholesalers in this sector from different parts of Spain and will have a complete program that will lead them to hold a B2B meeting with representatives of active tourism destinations present at the show, as well as to participate in the presentations of destination made by exhibitors.
This program includes the holding of the 1st Seminar on Sport and Active Tourism in Galicia with lectures and presentations such as “Termalismo Deportivo. Planning of Events to Promote Sports Tourism” which will be given by INORDE or the “Generation of Economic and Tourist Impact through Sport” of the University of Vigo. For its part, the Galician Sports Foundation will present “Galicia Activa as a tool for the promotion of Healthy Physical Activity and as a Resource Reference in Galicia”. This seminar also includes a round table on the opportunities offered by Active and Sport Tourism in which specialized agents, consultants and the Galician Association of Tourism and Nature Companies (AGETAN) will participate.
With an international vocation and continuity
Sportur Galicia was presented at a ceremony attended by the Secretary General for Sport of the Xunta de Galicia, Marta Míguez: the director general of Tourism, Nava Castro; the mayor of Ourense, Jesús Vázquez; the vice-president of the Provincial Council of Ourense, Rosendo Fernández; and the managing director of Expourense, Alejandro Rubín. All of them indicated that this event was born with the aim of continuity and to become an international fair as it is an event that combines the binomial sport + tourism and that will allow the seasonalization of tourism by bringing local visitors closer through sport.
