• The initiative seeks to attract Portuguese visitors and strengthen off-season food and wine tourism

Galician gastronomy crossed the border last week with the inauguration in Porto of the “Tapas por Galicia” Gastronomic Week, an initiative promoted by the Xunta de Galicia (Government of Galicia) to attract Portuguese tourists and showcase Galician culinary offerings in the tapas format.

The presentation took place at the emblematic Mercado do Bolhão, one of the city’s most representative spaces, and was attended by the president of the Galician Tourism Cluster, Cesáreo Pardal, and the director of Tourism of Galicia, Xosé Manuel Merelles.

This initiative seeks to strengthen the connection between Galicia and Portugal through gastronomy, uniting tradition, creativity, and local products as a driving force to attract visitors, especially in the autumn months.

• Seven Chefs, Seven Flavors

From October 15 to 25, seven renowned Galician chefs (participants in the “Seven Cities, Seven Flavors” competition) will offer their creations at the Mercado do Bolhão, bringing Galician cuisine to the Portuguese public through small-scale offerings. Among them is Álex Ferreiro, chef of the O Sendeiro restaurant (Santiago de Compostela) and winner of the last edition of the competition.

The event is rounded out with a promotional stand for Turismo de Galicia, where attendees can learn about Galician tourism and participate in raffles and tastings. In addition, the space will host the Galicia photography exhibition, as well as the screening of audiovisual campaigns showcasing the diverse landscape, culture, and gastronomy of the region.

With this initiative, Galicia strengthens its presence in the Portuguese market and consolidates its image as a leading food and wine destination in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula.
