Driven by the Foundation for Fish and Shellfish (Fundamar) and directed by the Cooperative of Shipowners of Vigo (Arvi) and the UGT and CCOO unions, Vigo Pesqueiro project seeks to attract visitors among those who spread the fishing culture of the city through industrial tourism routes that allow rediscover the impression that this sector has made the olívica city. Not surprisingly the fisheries sector in Vigo continues to maintain 33,000 jobs and is the industrial sector on which Vigo was built, to say its promoters.
The initiative has the support of the Council of Vigo, allow to present “a great story of pioneering individuals and companies able to work through all the seas of the world”, explained presidented Shipowners, Javier Touza, he has invited to engage companies and administrations to start designing itineraries in order to establish a partnership that accrues in the business and tourist fabric of the city. As an example, the routes may include visits to the Institute of Oceanography, the Technology Center of the Sea, the spring high altitude (joint ventures revolutionized the business structure in the late nineties) and Inshore, reefers or walks estuary.
These routes allow promote a suitable  tourism for everyone at the same time put in value the infrastructure of the city, said the Councillor for Tourism of Vigo, Laura Iglesias, who explained that this project will complement the tourism plan 2015-2025. “Neighborhoods like O Berbés and Bouzas are great witnesses of industrialization,” praised Iglesias, who augur the initiative “a great success” that “will serve to complete the current tourism offer” of Vigo. With 33,000 indirect workers, the fisheries sector is the “first industry” of the city, in the opinion of Touza, and the “firt stone” on which the first city in Galicia was built.
