Tourism in Galicia continues to advance towards its deseasonalization, showing notable dynamism in tourist activity outside of the high season, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) published on December 22, which refers to travelers staying in hotels and guesthouses during the month of November. In said month, approximately 269,000 travelers stayed and around 506,000 nights were registered, which represents an increase of 5.9% and 1.8% compared to the previous year. These figures indicate that hotel accommodation in the Galician community reaches the highest level of demand in the last 16 years and a historical record in terms of travelers staying in the month of November.
This month’s data reinforce the demand growth trend that Galicia had been experiencing in the first five months of the year, which recovered in September and was consolidated in October and November.
Both the national and international markets reach a historical maximum of hotel nights in the month of November of this year, with 246,000 nights for nationals (9% more than the pre-pandemic figure in 2019) and 100,000 nights for internationals . This increase in demand levels occurs in a context of improved hotel rates, which keeps hotel profitability stable, with values similar to those of the same month last year.
The data provided by the INE on December 22 focuses on travelers staying in hotels and guesthouses. These figures will be complemented at the beginning of January with statistics that include tourist figures from other establishments such as campsites, rural tourism, apartments, among others.
