The first data of 2020 from the National Institute of Statistics indicates that Galician hotels achieve the highest levels of profitability of the decade

Tourism in Galicia grew in January above the Spanish average, marking a 9% increase over the same period last year, six points more than the territory as a whole, where tourism also marked a positive figure of three points.

According to the INE, hotels and pensions in Galicia received in January 179,479 passengers – 8.2% more than a year ago – who made 338,030 nights, representing a growth of 9%, thus continuing the evolution of 2019. During this period, domestic tourism (3%), national tourism (15.7%) and international tourism (7.2%) grew in relation to January 2019. With more than 61,000 nights, international tourism achieved in this first month of the year a historical maximum of hotel demand in Galicia.

Increase in the average stay
January also saw an increase in occupation, by almost two percentage points. The INE also reveals that hotel rates have been increasing for five consecutive years, specifically by 8.8%.

This increase in rates, added to the improvement in demand and occupancy levels, means that Galician hotels are also improving their economic results. In this sense, profitability grew by 5.6%, placing the figure at the highest in the decade.
