The five designations of origin are taking part in this initiative, which will include guided visits to the wineries and numerous parallel activities, and which will begin on the weekend of 13-15 May in O Ribeiro.

Galicia is once again boasting wine tourism and wine culture with a new edition, its eleventh, of the Open Days of the Wine Routes, an initiative in which more than 60 wineries from the five designations of origin will take part. The possibility of participating in free guided visits to all of them is the main pillar on which this proposal is based, promoted by the wine routes of O Ribeiro, Rías Baixas, Valdeorras, Ribeira Sacra and Monterrei together with the Galicia Tourism Agency. But the initiative goes much further and includes an extensive programme of parallel activities related to gastronomy, heritage and nature with visits to museums, guided routes through places and areas of interest and, in some cases, boat trips. The restaurants that have also joined this initiative will offer menus prepared specifically for the occasion in which the dishes will be paired with wines from the corresponding designation of origin.

The eleventh edition of these open days will begin in O Ribeiro on 13, 14 and 15 May and will be held over the following weekends in the other four designations of origin areas: from 20 to 22 May in the Rías Baixas; from 27 to 29 May in Valdeorras; from 3 to 5 June in the Ribeira Sacra, and from 10 to 12 June in Monterrei.

Each weekend there will be four guided tours: three on Saturdays at 11am, 12.30pm and 5pm, and one on Sundays at 12pm. Participants will have a bus service, the Wine Bus, to travel to each area from some cities and towns of reference, enjoying a guide service along the established route. It is necessary to book in advance through the services provided by each of the wine routes as places are limited.

This eleventh edition of the Open Days has an important musical novelty. The Galician composers Ana Rodríguez and Carlos Calviño have created, in collaboration with the oenologist Jorge Hervella, a piece inspired by each of the designations of origin that will serve to add the sound section to the tasting experience.

In addition, through Turismo de Galicia’s Facebook page, three prize draws will be held for each wine route for a night’s accommodation and a meal for two people in one of the establishments participating in the campaign. In total, 15 prizes will be up for grabs.
