The Provincial Tourism Council of Lugo has approved the continuity of the award presented for the first time last year.
For the second consecutive year, sustainable tourism will have a specific award in the province of Lugo. The members of the Provincial Tourism Council of Lugo, a consultative body of the Lugo Provincial Council of which the Galicia Tourism Cluster is a member, agreed at a meeting held in recent days to continue the Sustainable Tourism Award, which was presented for the first time last year on the occasion of the celebration in the province of the Creative Spain Cup and within the framework of the awards for tourism excellence.
“We believe that maintaining it over time is an opportunity for all the companies and entities in the province,” explained the vice-president of the Council and provincial deputy for Internal Affairs, Territorial Promotion and Tourism, Pilar García Porto. She also stressed that the continuity of the award reinforces the work that the institution promotes to “consolidate a model of quality and sustainable tourism, with the capacity to attract visitors throughout the year, which values the heritage and contributes to generating wealth and employment, especially in rural areas”.
The Sustainable Tourism Award aims to recognise initiatives that contribute to sustainable tourism in the social, economic and environmental spheres. In its first edition it was awarded to the Cabanas das Chousas project for the use of biomass boilers, the care of its surroundings to prevent forest fires and the installation of recycling containers.
