• According to the Tourism Perspectives Report presented by Exceltur at the beginning of the year, tourism will approach 13.4% of GDP in 2024.

Exceltur presented its Tourism Perspectives Report with the business balance at the end of the year and prospects for 2024. In this, tourism stands as the main engine of real growth in Spain in 2023 compared to 2022.

The data managed by the association reveal that tourism GDP already represents 12.8% of the Spanish economy, confirming the consolidation of the sector. Not only that, but last 2023 also saw an increase in job creation, with 95,224 more jobs than in 2022 (17% of the total generated in the country). All this in a scenario of greater growth in income (+17.9% for foreigners and +22.2% for Spaniards compared to 2019).

The good data extends to all subsectors: hotel accommodation grew by around 20% compared to 2019; travel agencies, 13%; and transportation companies, 17%.

More specifically, 2023 was also a good year for Galician tourism. The president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, announced during the Fitur celebration that the number of visitors to the community rose to seven million.

Looking ahead to 2024, Exceltur also moved its estimates for the new year, revealing a new advance in tourism GDP, which will exceed €200,000 million for the first time and will reach 13.4% of GDP. In this way, tourism would account for 41.4% of the expected real growth of the Spanish economy.
