Last Thursday, July 3rd, the Smart Destination Platform (SDP), a new nationwide digital system designed to improve tourism management in Spain, was launched. Promoted by the State Secretariat for Tourism and funded through the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, the platform is presented as a public digital infrastructure serving destinations, businesses, tourists, and residents.
The SDP, managed by SEGITTUR, was created as a central tool of the Smart Tourism Destinations model and aims to facilitate decision-making, improve coordination between administrations and businesses, and foster a tourism experience better adapted to visitor needs. It will also allow managers to better understand the profiles of those who visit their territories, optimizing resources and services.
With the launch of the central node, the platform now begins a gradual integration process, in which destinations will be incorporated based on their technological maturity. The system is conceived as a scalable and flexible environment, capable of adapting to the specificities of each region.
In parallel, 46 destinations have already received a financial boost of €95 million to strengthen their technological infrastructure and become pioneers on the platform.
