The new edition of the Tourist Trains of Galicia will begin this March with the Train of the Camellia in Flower, which will travel the Camellia Route for two days. The initiative, by the Xunta de Galicia, Renfe and Inorde, allows you to discover corners of the Galician community on board a train.
The Camellia in Bloom Train will have departures on March 9 and 23, and tickets are now available for purchase through the usual platforms: at any Renfe station, on its website and for telephone sales.
Camellias arrived in Galicia at the end of the 18th century, from distant countries such as China and Japan. Initially, they were installed in the manor houses of the Galician nobility, but over time they were introduced into gardens and farms throughout the country, turning Galicia into an international benchmark in the cultivation and production of this plant. Our community has nearly 8,000 different varieties of camellia.
Coinciding with the camellia flowering period, this route will visit gardens that have the International Excellence certification. The first will be the Pazo Quinteiro de la Cruz, in Ribadumia, where more than 5,000 specimens of camellias of more than 1,500 varieties bloom, from which they make their own tea and which, in addition, travelers will be able to taste. The second will be that of Castelo de Soutomaior, knowing its garden of camellias with women’s names: Rosalía de Castro, María Casares or Bella Otero. Finally, the third will be the Pazo de Rubianes, which has more than 800 varieties of camellias and a hinca of Albariño, a wine that will be tasted at the end of the visit.
