The Amicos and Fundamar association launch a pioneering inclusive tourism project in Galicia linked to the Barbanza fishing sector. Its objective is to generate job opportunities for people with disabilities by promoting inclusive and accessible tourism.
Thanks to this initiative, named Mar de Amicos, seven people with disabilities will work as tourist guides this summer on three different routes that will cover the history and maritime heritage of the Barbanza geodestination.
The itineraries last an hour and a half. The first one begins in the port of Ribeira and offers the chance to attend an auction of fish and shellfish from the port market. The second of them focuses on the origin of the canning industry in Galicia, beginning in the ruins of the old Punta Castro salting plant and concluding with a visit to the LOU canning and smoking factory. Finally, the third route starts in the town of Cabo de Cruz. In this, the participants will be able to learn how a raft is built, how a shellfish bank is cared for and operated, or how one of the pioneering companies in Galicia implements sustainable methods in shellfish purification.
These routes also incorporate places of interest to visit. In Ribeira: the Corrubedo lighthouse, the Galician Aquaculture Cluster, the Rúa island and the Congalsa frozen food factory; in La Pobra: the cannery Ramón Franco; in Boiro: the Museum of the Sea or the Triñanes shipyard; and in Rianxo: the Activo del Mar classroom.
