Last Wednesday, April 26, the Spanish Tourist Office in the United Kingdom celebrated in London the first Sustainability Day in Spain. The new challenges of tourism and the sustainable initiatives that have been implemented in our country so far were discussed at the meeting. The event, attended by Cesáreo Pardal, President of the Tourism Cluster, and Diego Otero, member of the Executive Council and member of the Evaluation Committee of Galicia Sustainable Destination, consisted of a conference on sustainability and the subsequent delivery of the journalistic awards of responsable tourism.
During the conference, aimed at tour operators and specialized media, sustainable travel strategies were discussed from different angles: delving into the social aspect of sustainability and the problems of mass tourism in the most critical points, as well as techniques to avoid greenwashing.
During his participation in the panel on the impact of tourism on local communities, Diego Otero spoke about the ways in which tourism can directly support other areas (such as fishing), thus promoting benefits for the different sectors.
In his speech, Otero presented the “Galicia Sustainable Destino” Product Club, the Tourism Cluster’s commitment to tourism that integrates and enhances the region’s tourism offer that contributes to the sustainable growth of the destination. This project has more than 70 member companies and nearly 170 tourist offers published on its website. Through this platform it connects tourists and companies, facilitating access to the extensive sustainable tourism offer in Galicia.
With this participation in Spain’s Sunstainability Day, we promote the Tourism Cluster’s commitment to sustainable tourism, with the “Galicia Sustainable Destination” Product Club as an endorsement of sustainability and quality.
