A team from the University of A Coruña will organise and analyse data of tourist interest with the aim of optimising resources.

The City Council of A Coruña, through the A Coruña Tourism and Congress Consortium, the University of A Coruña and the Foundation of this university centre, have just signed an agreement to set up a Tourism Observatory to organise and analyse data of interest to the sector. The aim is “to have a better control of the tourist flow in the city in order to implement policies aimed at making better use of resources”.

The agreement establishes that a group of researchers from the UDC headed by Guillen Solórzano and Iria Caamaño will, among other tasks, carry out an audit of data of tourist interest, as well as an initial analysis and organisation of this data held by the City Council and other entities in the sector in order to assess its scope. They will also design and define the control scorecard for the observatory, and a tool for collaborative and shared use so that this information can be incorporated and consulted by different services.

Data on accommodation, demand, the origin of travellers (airport, train, cruises), culture and leisure, spending per person per day and during the stay, purchases with bank cards according to sectors, and the measurement of the carbon footprint in at least one MICE event per season and also in a cultural event or festival are some of the issues that will be studied through this initiative.
