A survey carried out by the Galicia Tourism Cluster indicates that the forecasts are positive with an increase in bookings in recent weeks, slightly slowed down by the weather forecast.

The highest level of occupancy will be recorded between 14 and 17 April, especially in four-star hotels, establishments with spa services and in some rural tourism areas.

The majority of tourists coming to Galicia will be of national origin, although in some destinations, such as Santiago de Compostela, international tourism is beginning to pick up.

The Galician tourism sector expects a good level of occupancy for Easter Week, with forecasts ranging from 60 % to 80 % depending on the area. These are qualitative estimates from a survey carried out by the Galicia Tourism Clusterwhich show that Galician tourism is recovering with the opening of establishments that had closed their doors during the pandemic and with occupancy levels prior to the pandemic for some of the entities consulted, although not across the board.

The survey indicates that the maximum level of occupancy will be registered between Thursday 14th and Sunday 17th, especially in hotels of 4 stars or higher, as well as in those offering spa or similar services. In general terms, rural tourism also expects good occupancy figures, especially in the Ribeira Sacra and Mariña Lucense.

The sources consulted agree that during the last few weeks there was a good volume of bookings, which slowed down slightly in the last few days due to the bad weather forecast. Thus, it is possible that the occupancy figures will vary over the next few days due to local tourists and last minute bookings and cancellations depending on the weather.

With regard to the profile of the traveller, the majority will be national and local, although it is true that some destinations, such as Santiago de Compostela, are beginning to receive some international tourists.

Analysis by territory

Moving on to an analysis by territory, both in the province of Pontevedra and in the city of Vigo, occupancy figures of around 60% are being recorded between Thursday and Sunday, a figure which drops to 40% if bookings from Monday are taken into account. These figures seem to be due to the adverse weather forecast for the coming week in Galicia, although the sector expects to reach 70% occupancy during the holidays, especially in hotels with spas. In Sanxenxo, 70% occupancy is expected for four-star hotels and above, a figure which drops to 55% for the rest of the establishments.

Hotels in the city of A Coruña are forecasting occupancy rates of 72.78 % and, so far, expect cancellations of around 12.40 %. On the other hand, the general forecast for the Costa da Morte is 60 % occupancy; a figure which is not expected but which may vary due to last minute bookings. However, on the positive side, it should be noted that no cancellations are being recorded in the area. The occupancy rate in Santiago de Compostela will be around 70 %, with most bookings concentrated in the historic centre of the Galician capital.

The figures for the province of Lugo vary depending on the area consulted. While in the city of Lugo and in the area of A Terra Chá occupancy figures of around 65 % are expected, in the Mariña Lucense an occupancy rate of 74 % is forecast for Thursday and Friday, despite the fact that some beach establishments are still closed. The balance is very positive for the Ribeira Sacra, where occupancy figures of over 88 % are expected between Thursday and Sunday and 80 % for the rest of the days. In this area, 3 and 4 star hotels and rural tourism establishments are particularly successful, with occupancy figures of over 90 %. Finally, the arrival of the high-speed train to Ourense seems to boost tourism, so that between Thursday and Saturday the city is expected to reach around 80% occupancy.
