A total of 30 Galician tour operators had the opportunity to discover a small part of the enormous potential of Galicia as a destination for active tourism through a fam trip promoted by the Galician Association of companies active tourism, adventure and nature (AGETAN) the travel agency CN Travel and Tourism Studies Centre of the University of Santiago de Compostela (Cetur). The initiative is part of the Galicia, Destino Activo, a brand promotion of this type of tourism that has been launched at the initiative of Tourism Cluster Galicia with the aim to improve the promotion and marketing of Galician tourism.

The familiarization trip aimed at travel agents who market the destination Galicia, was to conduct a drop in rafting down the river Ulla with the target participants in the event, a total of 30 from different parts of the Galician geography, know firsthand the potential of Galicia as a destination for performing active tourism activities, and to offer it to its customers.
The experience was well received among professional travel agents and many of them, who were unaware of the possibility of sports linked to tourism, they showed surprise at the quality of experience and have requested more information on the characteristics of the different scheduled breaks. Notably, the rafting is the most demanding activity in companies active in Galicia tourism.

Weekend Getaways
Agents may offer the implementation of these activities in the form weekend getaways that are complemented accommodation. Other possible activities to make itself stand out rafting, bungee jumping, climbing or canyoning. End customers can contract breaks in traditional travel agencies and online agencies also.
This action, which seeks the seasonality of tourism in Galicia so is being promoted and marketed in autumn, framed in the “Galicia, active destination” project, initiated in 2015 by the Cluster Tourism Galicia, in collaboration with the Tourism Galicia.
Through this project, the development of active tourism in Galicia, destination, through collaboration between management and staff sector has great potential to develop a range of sports linked to tourism, creating sustainable tourism products, seeks socially responsible , quality, innovative and differentiated that strengthen the positioning of the brand as a territory of Galicia nature and sport.
