The fam trips organised in collaboration with the Galicia Tourism Agency are developed in four of the itineraries of the pilgrimage routes.
More than fifty travel agents from Galicia are participating these days in a series of familiarization trips organized by the Galician Federation of Rural Tourism at different points of the pilgrimage routes to Compostela. This initiative is part of the agreement reached by Fegatur with the Galicia Tourism Agency to promote Galician rural tourism in the framework of the celebrations of Xacobeo 21-22 making known among the professionals of the sector the offer of rural accommodation and experiences offered by the Way of St. James. The Galician Association of Incoming Tour Operators (Atrega) and the Galician Association of Travel Agencies (Agavi) are also collaborating in its development.
The intention of these trips is to combine the proposals of accommodation and gastronomy in new tourist packages that will be marketed by travel agencies during the next year and thus give continuity to the summer-autumn season this year. According to Fegatur, the aim is also to “explore new audiences and new territories that seek in the ways to Santiago de Compostela and in the uniqueness of the Galician countryside a reason to reconnect with oneself, as well as with the authentic landscapes and with the particular natural and cultural heritage”.
The first two fam trips have taken place on the Winter Way, with visits to Quiroga, Vilachá, Monforte de Lemos, Belesar and Pantón, and the Northern Way, with stops in Foz, Barreiro, Lourenzá and Cervo.
The next appointments will be on the Silver Way and the Fisterra and Muxía Way. In the first case, the familiarisation trip will take place from the 30th of November to the 3rd of December with visits in the municipalities of A Estrada, Monterrei and Allariz. In the case of the Fisterra and Muxía Way, the activity will take place in Outes and Muxía from November 30th to December 2nd.
In all four cases, the programme organised by Fegatur includes workshops with the aim of establishing “synergies and contributing to the deseasonalisation and differentiation of Galician rural tourism”. Its promoters hope that these exchanges will also serve to review the brand image of Galician rural tourism and address new strategies for next year.
