Galicia was the region with the most new certified establishments in 2020.

The Galician tourism sector’s commitment to quality has once again received official recognition. 38 new establishments received the Q for Tourism Quality certification in 2020, which has made Galicia the region with the greatest increase in distinctions at national level and has allowed it to strengthen its second position in the overall ranking, being only surpassed by Andalucía.

This was highlighted by the first vice-president of the Xunta and Regional Minister of Justice, Presidency and Tourism, Alfonso Rueda, during the recognition ceremony held today at the Museo do Mar de Galicia, in Vigo, with the participation of the director of the Galicia Tourism Agency, Nava Castro, the heads of the distinguished establishments, and other representatives of the sector, such as the president of the Galicia Tourism Cluster, Cesáreo Pardal.

Galicia leads the Q for Quality in seven of the different traditional categories of the sector (hotels, travel agencies, rural accommodation, spas, marinas, active tourism and industrial businesses) and is in second position in terms of catering services. In addition, it has also excelled in the new typologies incorporated into this certification system: sustainable accommodation and, especially, unique public places and hostels, in the latter two cases achieving the 12 recognitions registered in all of Spain in 2020.

Agreement with the Cluster

The certified establishments have specific lines of aid to adapt to the requirements of the Q for Quality and to meet the cost of the certification process. The Xunta specifies that until last year the regional administration allocated 426,000 euros to the process of accession, certification and renewal and that this year’s call is endowed with 410,000 euros, of which 260,000 are aimed at local authorities and tourism sectors, and the remaining 150,000, the multi-year agreement with the Galicia Tourism Cluster.
