The agreement between the two entities will involve an investment of 600,000 euros for the creation and promotion of specific products.

The incentive of the arrival of groups of visitors to Galicia taking advantage of the Xacobeo 21-22 is the central objective of the collaboration agreement reached between Galician Tourism Agency and the Association of Incoming Tour Operators of Galicia (Atrega), and authorized in the last meeting of the Consello of the Xunta. The agreement provides for an investment of 600,000 euros for the creation of tourism products aimed at groups, their promotion on social networks, online advertising and specialised press, and the creation of blogs and various other actions.

This initiative is aimed at those groups that choose Galicia as a destination coinciding with Xacobeo 21-22 and, especially, those travelling for religious reasons, language tourism, wine tourism, congress tourism and all those who “may feel particularly attracted to Galicia on the occasion of the celebration of the Holy Year”.

The growing number of tourist packages contracted through the Internet and the search for advice on the Internet by many travellers are two of the reasons behind this campaign aimed at helping a sector, such as the travel sector, which has been particularly affected by the covid pandemic, but which has now shown significant signs of recovery. “The Xunta wants to boost the reactivation of the sector and, above all, promote Galicia as a safe destination among the group segment,” explained the regional government.

Xunta also emphasise that the companies that make up Atrega represent more than 95% of the business volume of its sector, with a turnover of almost 250 million euros and a market presence that makes Galicia the leading territory in the field of tour operators in the north of the Peninsula.
