The two initiatives add up to an investment of more than 85 million euros aimed at consolidating the sector during this Holy Year, as the vice-president of the Xunta explained to the representatives of the sector in Fisterra.
Representatives of the tourism sector of the Costa da Morte and the Clúster Turismo de Galicia held a meeting this week in Fisterra with the first vice-president of the Xunta de Galicia and conselleiro of Presidency, Justice and Tourism, Alfonso Rueda, to analyse the current situation of the sector and to know the plans of the autonomous government for the year 2022.
The meeting, promoted by Banco Sabadell under the name of Finisterrae Forum Meetings on the Horizon, had as main speaker Rueda, who took advantage of his speech to highlight the data obtained by the Galician tourism during 2021 and that placed the community at the head of the recovery of the sector at the national level, exceeding the national average by almost 25 points.
With regard to the plans for 2022, the vice-president of the Xunta pointed out that the European funds are a great opportunity to underpin the recovery and take advantage of the added potential of the continuation of the Holy Year 2021-2022. He explained that the Xacobeo Next Generation Plan will involve an investment of 39.2 million euros, of which 22.7 million will be allocated to the enhancement of 12 monuments listed as Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC), 8.3 million to cohesion actions at the destination, and 8.1 million to tourism sustainability plans at the destination.
In addition, the 46.6 million euros of the Camina Plan will include a specific allocation of 21.6 million euros for companies in the sector, which can be used to improve tourist establishments, increase quality, accelerate tourism initiatives and train and professionalise staff. A further 3.3 million will be earmarked for family tourism initiatives, strategies implemented by Galician universities and non-profit organisations, while the remaining 21.7 million will be managed by local bodies.
In the meeting held in Fisterra also took the floor the president of the Cluster, Cesáreo Pardal, and Jesús Picallo, vice-president of the entity as well as president of the Association of Entrepreneurs of the Way of St. James to Fisterra and Muxía, Camiño Solpor.
