  • Shows its concern about the impact that statements without scientific basis may have on the reputation of Galician gastronomy or tourism.

  • From the sector they remember the strict controls to which food products in Galicia are subject and the regional, national and international standards that accredit the quality of the sandbanks.

The Galician Tourism Cluster appeals for responsibility in the uncontested demonstrations about the effects of the dumping of pellets on seafood products and on Galician sandbanks. The sector expresses its concern about the impact that statements without scientific basis may have on the reputation of key sectors for Galicia such as fishing or tourism and gastronomy.

For this reason, the Cluster expects maximum prudence and rigor in the demonstrations about the repercussions of this incident to avoid reputational damage in the consumption of our seafood products or in the choice of our coasts as a destination.

In this sense, the Cluster recalls the strict controls to which food products in Galicia are subject, before they are marketed, and the regional, national and international standards that accredit the quality of the sandbanks. The Community analyzes the quality of the waters every year through controls carried out by the Galician Health Service, which in the last analysis classified 92% of the bathing areas as excellent. Galicia is the fifth Community with the most beaches accredited with the national Q quality mark and has 123 sandy beaches with a blue flag, an internationally based mark that meets, among others, sustainability criteria.

The sector trusts in the capacity of public administrations to resolve this incident and calls for collaboration and responsibility to defend the values of Galicia as a sustainable, safe tourist destination in contact with nature. From the Cluster it is expected that the statements made regarding the incident will be limited to the defense of the interests of Galicia and that political use of it will be avoided.
