  • The Camino de Santiago is registering occupancy levels close to 100% on some routes and a greater number of international pilgrims.
  • The sector is confident that last-minute bookings will increase forecasts for the coming weeks.

The summer starts with good prospects for the Galician tourism sector, which forecasts an occupancy level of between 70% and 90%, figures similar to those of the summer of 2022 that could be exceeded in some areas. These are the estimates obtained in the survey carried out by the Galician Tourism Cluster in which the sources consulted agree that during the months of March and May a higher level of reservations was registered than in previous years, which fell slightly in the month of June . The sector is confident that last-minute reservations will increase forecasts for the coming weeks.

In general terms, the Camino de Santiago is registering occupancy levels of 100% on some routes and a greater number of international pilgrims. Rural tourism faces the summer with optimism with a good degree of occupancy in areas such as the Ribeira Sacra or Barbanza, especially on weekends.

A Coruña

The hotels in the city of A Coruña situate the occupancy rates at 85% for July and 90% in August with a mainly national visitor profile and with Portugal as the main issuer of international travelers.

On the Costa da Morte, occupancy figures of over 80% are expected in the months of July and August, although positive data is also expected for the month of September. The influence of the Camino de Santiago and the interest in the Camino de los Faros will favor the achievement of a high degree of occupation in the territory.

Regarding the origin of travelers, the majority tourist on the Costa da Morte continues to be national, although the Ruta Xacobea is bringing a considerable volume of international pilgrims, especially from September.

In Santiago de Compostela, the data indicates that occupancy will be close to 76% in July and that it will be around 74% in August. The celebration of large events, such as the Gozo Fest or the week of the Apostle had approached that percentage to 100%. In the Galician capital, the hoteliers consulted make an assessment of the summer season similar to that of 2022, both in terms of occupancy and average price.

The sources consulted in Ferrol predict a good summer, especially from the second half of July, and expect few cancellations. In addition, they highlight the arrival of more and more pilgrims, many of international origin, who walk the English Way.

Pontevedra

In the province of Pontevedra, the forecasts indicate that this summer occupancy figures will be reached similar to those of last summer, although in some cases the results obtained in 2022 may be slightly exceeded. After a month of June with an occupancy percentage close to 80%, establishments in the province already register occupancies of over 70%, a figure that is expected to reach 85% with last-minute reservations.

Looking ahead to August, the expected occupancy level is 75%, although it is expected to increase so that many establishments will be able to hang the full sign. For its part, in Sanxenxo a good summer is estimated, with occupations above 70% for the coming months.

Lugo

In the province of Lugo, good occupancy data is expected during the second half of July and in the month of August.

In the Ribeira Sacra, the current occupancy rate is already two points higher than that registered in July 2022. Thus, the average occupancy forecast stands at 70%, and is somewhat higher in 4-star or higher hotels, with 76%, and rural tourism establishments with 80%.

Ourense

The arrival of high-speed rail in Ourense is boosting tourism in the area, so a good summer is expected, with especially positive data during the month of August. In addition, last-minute reservations are expected to improve the occupancy rate in the territory.
