Visitors can now make use of the route between Tui and Valença and the renewed booking website of the Ribeira Sacra catamaran of the Provincial Council of Lugo.
River tourism is gaining strength in Galicia with two initiatives launched in recent days and aimed at getting visitors on board to discover some of the most impressive spots in this land.
This is the case of the routes of the Rio Miño project, a navigable destination, which from Friday 25 February travel the waters of the final stretch of the mouth of the Miño to showcase the heritage, history, landscapes, gastronomy, trade and the rest of the tourist attractions of both banks. The city councils of Tui, Salvaterra de Miño, the municipal chambers of Valença and Monçao, and Turismo de Galicia and Turismo do Porto and Norte de Portugal are promoting this initiative, which will start during the first week with routes between Tui and Valença, followed by the route between Salvaterra and Monçao from 7 March. The routes are free of charge, but it is necessary to book in advance through the website www.hemisferios.org as places are limited by the capacity of the boat. The tourist offices in each town will serve as the starting point for the eight-hour routes.
The other river route that is in the news these days is the one promoted by the Provincial Council of Lugo through the waters of the Miño and Sil rivers that bathe the famous Ribeira Sacra. In this case, visitors will still have to wait until the third weekend of March (19th and 20th) to board the catamarans, but from this week they can book their tickets and do so from a renewed, more accessible and visual website. The section to buy tickets and all the information necessary to enjoy the two available routes is now available at https://reservas.rutasembalses.es/. The Sil Canyon route starts at the Ponte do Sil jetty, in the municipality of Monforte de Lemos, and goes as far as the Santa Cristina monastery to start the return journey from there. The Cabo do Mundo route starts and returns in the village of Belesar and runs along the Miño to the recreational area of Maiorga. In both cases, the ordinary ticket price is 9 euros, but there are various discounts for young people, students, the unemployed and other groups.
