The Plan approved by the Xunta for the reactivation of the tourism sector will involve an investment of 11 million and 5.6 million in the redesign of Xacobeo2021

Under the maxim of promoting Galicia as a safe destination, the plan will start this month of May with the implementation of measures aimed at maintaining employment and supporting companies, with a budget of 5.1 million euros; the implementation of promotional activities of the community to revive demand, actions for which 2.1 million euros has been allocated; the creation of new tourism products with measures and actions amounting to 1.8 million and, finally, training actions innovation and improvement of competitiveness, with an investment of just over 1.9 million euros.

Among the most important measures, the Xunta will launch the Galicia, safe destination program, with a budget of 5.5 million euros, which includes the implementation of health and hygiene protocols, certifications and a line of support for the adaptation of hotels and tourist accommodations in the process of adaptation for reopening, along with health safety actions and modernization of the network of public hostels that result in improved safety and confidence of the traveler. xuntan máis de 5.5M euros do plan, para garantir a seguridade econfianza nos usuarios.

In addition, the plan also includes the reformulation of the Elixe Galicia programme so that those who have taken advantage of this plan can enjoy their holidays even until 2021, as well as the creation of a Solidarity Voucher that will be launched in the second half of May with a budget of 1.5 million euros, to boost the consumption of tourist products especially aimed at the health and social sectors, so that they can benefit from bonuses in their enjoyment of hotels and restaurants in Galicia. The aim is to encourage local domestic tourism and provide liquidity to the tourism sector, without forgetting to boost the recovery of demand for which the Xunta is working on a campaign to promote Galicia’s resources and potential and especially encourage Galicians to enjoy them. All this is part of the Stay in Galicia programme, which will be completed with online consultancy work through the IGAPE and the Galician Tourism Cluster and a training programme to give continuity to the courses and seminars already being held from the CSHG for professionals in the sector in different areas and aimed at different groups, as well as opening up a space for proposals to improve innovation and competitiveness in the tourism sector as a whole.

A new Xacobeo
The plan calls for a new Holy Year that will function as a tool to stimulate activity and consumption in order to boost the cultural and tourism industry. Priority will be given to initiatives that will activate consumption and employment and it will be a more “imaginative and complex” Xacobeo. In this sense, the Galician Government has entrusted the ICTE with a specific protocol for the Way of St. James, detailing the measures to be applied in public spaces and tourist establishments.
