The Xunta and representatives of the sector agreed to increase the capacity of the hotel establishments to 50% from next week. During the meeting, the opening process was also monitored and expectations for the summer season were analysed. According to the representatives of the sector, with the entry of Galicia in phase 2 of the de-escalation, nearly 50% of the catering establishments have resumed their activity and it is expected that in the next few days new businesses will be incorporated.
The increase in capacity, which was announced last Sunday by the President of the Galician Government, was discussed today at a meeting between sector representatives and the Regional Minister of Culture and Tourism, Román Rodríguez. The intention is that it will be approved this weekend at the next meeting of the Operational Coordination Centre (Cecop) so that bars, cafés and restaurants can apply it from next Monday, 1st June.
The agreement comes after the last instructions published in the Official Bulletin of the State (BOE) for the territories in phase 2 of the de-escalation, the central government authorized the various communities to expand the maximum capacity inside the catering establishments, from 40% to 50%.
The director of the Galician Tourism Agency, Nava Castro, also participated in the meeting, as well as representatives of the Galician Tourism Cluster, the Provincial Hotel Association of A Coruña, the Provincial Association of Hotel and Tourism Businesses of Lugo, the Hotel Federation of Ourense, the Provincial Hotel Federation of Pontevedra, the Hotel Association of Compostela, the Association of Businessmen of the Way to Finisterre and Muxía and the Consortium of Tourist Businesses of Sanxenxo.
