presentación Fitur

“Plural, cosmopolitan and open”, A Coruña was presented at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) as a tourist city oriented towards gastronomy and leisure to attract travelers, complemented by visits to the museum network and the natural attractions that make up the set of a destination that in 2018 will have as novelty the Gastronomic Festival of Atlantic Cuisine. “We want to be a reference point for gastronomic tourism in the northwest of Spain,”said Ferreiro at an event in which he was accompanied by the tour guide Suso Martínez from A Coruña, characterized as the former mayor and writer Manuel María Puga y Parga Picadillo to give a touch of humor and history to the presentation.

Looking ahead to 2022, just after the next Xacobeo, the mayor of Santiago, Martiño Noriega, advanced in Fitur the strategic lines that is developing the City Council of Santiago in tourism matters hand in hand with its Strategic Plan, which will be presented next February. In his speech, he explained the reasons for choosing this year as a reference because “it is not that we are not concerned about the coming Holy Year 2021, but we are more concerned about 2022 from the perspective that it will happen after the great year that will be 2021, which is why our proposal for a Strategic Plan does not focus on the Holy Year but rather on 2022”.

With the good tourist results boosted in 2017 in terms of travelers and overnight stays, Noriega said that “it is time to face a series of challenges that will have to be based on the governance of tourism and that allow us to make a new leap to take advantage of the tourist potential of our city for the benefit of all citizens. Among the challenges of tourism in Compostela, the mayor highlighted four axes such as “decentralization, with the improvement of tourist flows in the city itself in anticipation of the massification; seasonalization, with the capture of new tourist flows in the months of lower demand; gentrification, combating the phenomenon of depopulation of the historic city and sustainability, under the criteria of innovation and excellence.

For its part, Ferrol was sold in Fitur as an ideal destination for holding congresses and events thanks to its first-class hotel offer, a huge cultural offer, in addition to having “a simple internal communication, peace of mind and quality,” according to Mayor Jorge Suarez. Spaces such as the municipal auditorium, the Jofre theatre, the CIS or Exponav are ideal for hosting different congresses or activities and this is reflected in the tourist brochure that has been launched from Fitur to companies in the country. Jorge Suárez did not pass up the opportunity to remember that Ferrol opts to be a World Heritage Site before Unesco and assured that the next Fitur will show a “very big poster” of the inclusion of the city on the list of candidates “for the struggle that has been going on since 2001”.

Arousa Norte, Paradise found
Paraiso Atopado was the title with which they decided to baptize the proposal of Arousa Norte that presented a new coastal path, a route of 100 kilometers parallel to the coast that offers the walker landscapes of great uniqueness and beauty, in addition to a estuary navigable all year round and natural enclaves of great value as the dune park of Corrubedo and on the island of Sálvora, without forgetting the great gastronomic offer.
