Occupancy corresponds to the average of July, August and the first half of September, a shorter than usual high season during which 98% of the hotel establishments have been in operation

The Consortium of Tourist Businessmen of Sanxenxo (CETS) made a positive balance of the whole of the high season that ends with an average occupation of 54%, result of the survey of occupation carried out to the associates in July, August and first fortnight of September.

CETS takes stock now, when it has just concluded the first half of September, since most of its establishments are closing these days after having marked an average occupation during the first half of September of 46.30%. A result far from the 76% which it reached during this same period last year, but which the businessmen from Sanxenxo value as good in the context of the exceptional circumstances in which it has been working.

“The general balance is good, we have worked well, although it is true that we closed the season with a certain bittersweet feeling because it has been a very short season. We have lost Easter, the May long weekend and now the high season has been shorter than usual, and we are going to notice this in the annual profitability balance, but the sector has known how to respond with professionalism and speed, we have adapted to the circumstances and we have managed to save a summer which was very complicated in June,” explained CETS’ President, Alfonso Martínez.

In spite of this, the President of CETS wanted to highlight the effort of all the businessmen to keep their establishments open, giving continuity to many jobs, which are vital for the economy of the town. “We have been open 98% of the lodgings, so we have achieved an occupation of more than 50% with the number of hotel beds we offer, we must value it as a success,” analyzed Martinez.

Great work of the city council
In this sense, the President of CETS also highlighted the great capacity of adaptation and professionalism shown by the tourist businessmen -who knew how to undertake the necessary measures derived from the COVID19- such as the great work carried out by the City Council, of which he highlighted the effort made in terms of implementing measures and protocols, hygienization, cleaning and awareness through the beach informants authorized by the council, with the aim of transmitting that Sanxenxo was a safe destination, as it has been proved.
