Proturga launches a guide to raise awareness about the professionalization of the Galician tourism sector

The Association of Tourism Professionals of Galicia, PROTURGA, has launched the first Professional Tourism Guide, a publication that can be downloaded from its website, and which is based on a study carried out by the association on the competencies of each of the tourism qualifications existing in the market in relation to jobs in the tourism sector.

Its aim is to raise awareness about the professionalization of the sector, an aspect that they consider key in Proturga to improve the quality and competitiveness of tourism since human capital is an unrepeatable factor in each organization. Even so, they underline “there is a belief that to work in tourism is worth anyone, which causes a great intrusion into work, lack of professionalism and a decline in quality. Aimed at public and private bodies, it contains recommendations for minimum qualifications to be included in the job profiles of tourism companies and bodies, as well as in the requirements of government competitions.

Thus, the guide distinguishes between jobs that are accessed through public competition and those offered by companies and makes a series of recommendations on the training to be required in each recruitment process, establishing, for example, that to to accede to a position of project manager through public competition it would be necessary to have obtained a Diploma or a Degree in Tourism and to have studied a master or that in the processes of hiring to work in the direction of a lodging, it is required to be diploma or graduate in Tourism or to have obtained a Superior Diploma in Hotel Management.
