The Galician Tourism Strategy 2030 seeks to promote authentic and sustainable tourism

  • The roadmap, prepared by the Xunta de Galicia and the Galician Tourism Cluster for the next six years, contemplates an investment of more than €1,000 M

Last Friday 27th, the new Galician Tourism Strategy 2030 was presented in Ferrol, a roadmap prepared from a diagnosis process in which more than 1,000 professionals participated through working groups.

The priority objectives are to promote sustainable tourism, with hospitality as a sign of identity and that benefits the entire territory.

The document has 64 measures, and aims to take advantage of the tourist potential of the community in a sustainable way. It proposes to grow where it is most necessary, focusing on rural and coastal areas, to support more de-seasonalized and international tourism, and in which coexistence with local communities is prioritized. In fact, a third of the budget of more than €1 billion will be allocated to environmental and social sustainability, with the aim of generating a positive relationship between residents and tourists.

This strategy is structured around 8 missions: authentic and differential destination; comprehensive sustainability; promotion, marketing, deseasonalisation and internationalisation of the destination; business profitability and competitiveness; mobility, tourist connectivity and territorial rebalancing; destination governance; tourist intelligence and digital transformation; and human capital and talent retention.

Measures are also included to give prestige to the tourism sector and professions and contribute to generating quality employment, with the objectives of creating and retaining talent.

The use of soft means of transport (bicycle, walking routes, etc.) and electric mobility will also be encouraged to connect the major transport nodes with tourist resources. In addition, thermalism, wine and gastronomy and congress tourism will continue to be promoted.

Xacobeo 2027 will also play a fundamental role in tourism in the coming years, with the aim of making it a success again.

In short, it is about strengthening Galicia as a sustainable destination, which generates wealth throughout the territory, which focuses on people and which promotes hospitality as a hallmark of Galicia.
