Support from the Xunta to the music festivals under the brand Fest Galicia

The brand brings together a total of 13 festivals that shared with the Galician government their situation and the measures taken in response to the situation arising from the COVID19

Representatives of the festivals adhering to the FEST Galicia brand, the Regional Minister of Culture and Tourism, Román Rodríguez, and the director of the Galician Agency for Cultural Industries (Agadic), Jacobo Sutil, held a meeting with the aim of learning first-hand about the status of their projects and to discuss the measures the Xunta de Galicia is working on to promote the cultural and music sector, given the proximity of Xacobeo 2021.

In this sense, the representatives of the entity highlighted the process of adapting the formats to the current situation marked by the health crisis of the covid-19, rethinking their programming and betting in many cases on Galician artists, as well as modifying their usual schedules in many cases. So far, Vive Nigrán 2020 Picnic-Club Edition was held, which was responsible for opening the FEST Galicia season on 17 and 18 July; Sinsal Litoral SON Estrella Galicia, which offered an exclusive line-up over five days; and the 17th Ribeira Sacra and MicroSonRías Baixas festivals, which held special editions in a reduced format.

In mid-August, the Atlantic Fest/Fest Galicia Xacobeo 2021 will be held with a surprise concert that will be translated into audiovisual pieces to be broadcast on social networks, without losing sight of the essence of a beach festival that opens a new stage of the event with its location on the La Concha beach in Vilagarcía de Arousa. And closing the month of August, on Friday 28 and Saturday 29, the Resurrection Fest 2020 Online Edition will develop a streaming program with more than 12 hours of content on YouTube and Facebook platforms, including a documentary with the history of the festival, unreleased concerts, interviews and the official release of the Resurrection Fest song created by the band Crisix.

September, the most festival-like month

Many festivals decided to move their usual calendar to September, which will be full of very different proposals. The route will start in Lugo with the Caudal Fest programme, which will schedule the Caudal Nights with 15 concerts by various artists, distributed from 3 to 20 September in different locations in the city of Lugo for a maximum of 800 people.

On the other hand, the Language Festival offers the format Revenidas en conservas, which from Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th will mix online activities and face-to-face meetings, with music, circus, oral narration, seafaring culture activities and gastronomy in several tourist attractions in the Vilaxoán neighbourhood, in Vilagarcía de Arousa.

That same weekend the WOS will develop its most reflective edition with a day of the conference program WOS Talks X FEST Galicia, which will take place on Saturday September 12 in the Cidade da Cultura de Galicia, and also via streaming. These will be talks with a formative character, focused on social responsibility and directed at a wide audience on current issues in culture and personal experiences of prestigious artists.

Two other events will take place during the last weekend of September. In Santiago, from the 24th to the 27th, the festival Cantos na Maré will programme the special edition Compostela na Marea with musical and sectorial activities that will take place in different singular spaces of the Galician capital and can also be followed on the web. Meanwhile, in Vigo, the Festival Under Fest will hold a reduced edition on Saturday 26th September, with concerts in the city’s halls and theatres and also street activities.

Even in September, but without a confirmed date, two other events will take place: Festival de la Luz will offer Reencontros da Luz and what will be the 10th edition of PortAmérica will publish Talento gallego para llevar, three exclusive recordings of as many artists of consolidated talent in Galician music, which will be made without an audience in places of tourist interest, and which will be published throughout that month.

Support from the Xunta
The professional summer music festivals that make up the FEST Galicia brand are supported by the Galician Government through the FEST Galicia 2020 programme, which has an investment of 400,000 euros. With this new proposal, it will develop until the end of September concerts and calls of reduced format to comply with the hygienic-sanitary protocols, as well as different actions on line. The priority is to financially support the promoting companies so that next year they can return with editions and posters as outstanding as those initially planned for this year.

FEST Galicia thus remains a transversal brand promoted by the regional government since 2018 to promote sustainable and quality music tourism, a leadership for festivals that are strategic for our Community and which, in view of the current health crisis, were forced to suspend, delay or modify their current editions.
