  • The investment will be channeled through two separate calls for proposals, the first of which has already been published in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG).

The Xunta de Galicia has approved an investment of €7.8 million to improve the thermal tourism accommodation offering in the region through the creation and renovation of spa and thalasso hotels. The measure is part of the Territorial Plan for Thermal Towns and Historic Centers, partially financed with EU NextGeneration funds through the Recovery and Resilience Facility, and will be implemented between 2025 and 2026.

This investment is channeled through two calls for proposals:

  • €1.7 million will be allocated to new construction or renovations that will allow the launch of thermal tourism accommodations, provided that they have certified mineral-medicinal or marine waters. This call for proposals was published in DOG last Friday, May 9, and the eligible expenses are divided into two categories:
    • Line 1: Sustainable construction, renovation, or rehabilitation of buildings and adaptation of infrastructure or facilities for the launch of a new tourist accommodation establishment linked to a spa or thalasso resort.
    • Line 2: Renewable energy systems and a circular economy in the new tourist establishment linked to a spa or thalasso resort.

  • €6.085 million will be dedicated to the rehabilitation and modernization of existing spa and thalasso hotels, with special attention to sustainability, the implementation of renewable energy, and the circular economy. To qualify for this aid, at least five direct jobs must be created and activities that strengthen sustainable tourism and the local fabric must be promoted.

In addition, the Xunta de Galicia has already announced a third line of action, focused on promoting Galician thermal culture through conferences, publications, and other awareness-raising initiatives.
