The European Travel Commission (ETC) and Eurail, the entity that represents Europe’s railway network, have already presented the winners of the Railway Tourism Awards in Vienna. First launched in 2021, these awards recognize excellent marketing campaigns that encourage travelers to explore Europe by train.
This year they received more than 30 applications from tourism organizations, marketing agencies, railway operators and other entities operating in Europe. The tourist trains of Galicia from the Galician Tourism Agency, Renfe and Inorde were selected by a jury of experts made up of tourism, railway and European marketing professionals, who judged their relevance, the development of the product focused on the railway, the creativity and social and media impact.
The initiative received an honorable mention for offering tourists an attractive and sustainable travel experience through Galicia through 14 tourist railway lines. This is an initiative that introduces travelers to the gastronomy, landscapes and history of Galicia, promoting authentic experiences to discover the corners and hidden gems of the region.
This award is in addition to the Best National Active Tourism Product received in 2015 at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), for promoting the development and marketing of the tourism industry and projecting a quality tourism product.
2023 season
This year the Galician tourist train initiative concluded with more than 86.3% occupancy. This year two new itineraries were launched: the Camellias in Bloom and the MEGA Experience, with good reception from travelers. These were added to those already known, which tour lighthouses, manors and historic Galician gardens and monasteries, or gastronomic proposals such as the Galician cheese route, among others.
