The Camino de Santiago and the improvement of local tourist resources will focus a good part of the investments

Among the novelties for 2017, the creation of the Galicia Parabéns Awards

Under the maxims of continuing to build quality tourism geared towards internationalization, innovation and differentiation, the budget running Tourism of Galicia for 2017 grows 5.4% to reach just over 46 million euros.

One of the items that grow the most for this coming year is the one destined to the conservation and promotion of the Way of Santiago, 33% more to exceed two million euros. This reinforcement will be aimed at improving the tourist infrastructure relating to the routes of Jacobs with the completion of the hostel in the center of the city of Ourense, the opening of a new hostel in the Cabaña-Friol, the equipment of the hostel of A Fonsagrada and The provision of a pilgrim hostel to Ordes with the rehabilitation of the Casa Rectoral de Poulo, without forgetting the performances of Monte do Gozo. On the other hand, the Public Network will be improved with interventions in several shelters of more than twenty years of the French Way. In addition, an important effort will be made to improve and signalize the English Way and the Fisterra-Muxía Route.

In addition, it is planned to publish guides for the recently officialized Winter and Portuguese Way along the Coast, the development of a schedule of activities for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Declaration of Santiago de Compostela as European Cultural Itinerary and the implementation of The Pilgrim Card.

Another of the axes that support the budgets of Tourism of Galicia for 2017, is the improvement of tourist infrastructures. In this area, the Director of Tourism of Galicia, Nava Castro explained that two specific projects called Miradores de Galicia and Rutas and Sendas de Galicia, are being collected for the first time, in which they will intervene in the adaptation of the Estaca de Bares space and in The conditioning and signaling of the Route of the Ulla and the Route of the lamprey.

Another action highlighted by Nava Castro for 2017 is the Health and Thermal Tourism Plan of Galicia, which will be finalized at the beginning of next year and which is committed to a strategy of positioning resources aimed at wellness tourism and Care after strictly medical treatments.

In order to distinguish public initiatives aimed at preserving, improving and beautifying the landscapes, population centers and Roads of Santiago de Galicia, Turismo de Galicia creates the new Galicia Parabéns prizes for 2017, with which it seeks to progress in the improvement of the Landscape of our territory, also supporting local entities to improve their tourism resources.

Promotion of the destination Galicia

Respect to the actions to promote the destination of Galicia, the director referred to the launch of a major national and international media campaign, the presence in twelve national and 24 international tourism fairs as well as the publication of promotional material. At the same time, he explained, it will focus on familiarization trips for tour operators and travel for the specialized press, as well as the organization and promotion of events and events that generate tourist flows continuing with programs such as Autumn Gastronomic, Tapas por Galicia, the Route of the Camelia or the Tourist Trains.
