The tourism sector will be eligible in the coming weeks for new subsidies amounting to almost 16 million euros.
The development of new sustainable products to reinforce the image of Galicia as a safe tourist destination is the aim of the agreement between the Xunta and the Galicia Tourism Cluster approved by the Galician Government at its last meeting. The agreement, with a regional contribution of 700,000 euros, will enable the design of tourism products focused on the new demands of consumers, which take into account environmental and energy sustainability, and which incorporate elements of local consumption.
These new products will support the incoming sector and travel agencies through specialised packages and will also address issues related to digitalisation and the improvement of the marketing process, both in terms of the channel and the end customer. To this end, contact will be made with companies in the tourism sector that are representative of different areas as well as with different social sectors through online and offline actions. The creation of a sustainable product club, the development of promotional materials for agencies and end customers, and the implementation of marketing actions to publicise the new products designed are also foreseen.
The agreement between the Xunta and the Clúster will be in force until December next year with an investment of 200,000 euros for the current year and 500,000 euros for 2022.
In addition, the Xunta plans to call throughout this month various lines of support to the tourism sector for a total amount of almost 16 million euros that will benefit both travel agencies and hotel establishments and municipalities of less than 10,000 inhabitants. A call for aid of up to 350,000 euros is aimed at travel agencies for the maintenance of establishments, while hotel and catering businesses will be able to receive up to 6 million euros in subsidies for postcovid equipment (home automation, signage, disinfection systems…) and a similar amount for digitalisation and digital marketing (computer applications, customer acquisition, web development…).
