Portugal, the new best tourist destination in Europe at the World Travel Awards, where Spain only won six awards compared to the 24 of our neighbours.

The Zappeion Megaron Hall Hotel in Athens (Greece) hosted the WTA, World Travel Awards, in which a total of 520 general and country-specific awards were presented, with which it is intended to recognize the leading companies in the European travel industry. From airlines, hotels to car rental companies received an award.

Compared to competing destinations in the same segments, Spain has had a very discreet representation (6). Portugal, with more than 24 awards, has been the winning nation, followed by Greece (15), Turkey (11) or Italy (11). In fact, Portugal has been recognized as the new best tourist destination in Europe for the second consecutive year. In addition to the award for Best European Destination, Madeira received the award for Best Island Destination and Lisbon was chosen as Best Destination for Citizens of Europe, as well as Best Cruise Port. In total, Portugal received up to 36 awards, including the recognition of Turismo de Portugal as the best official European tourism organisation.
