The municipality of Sober hosted the signing of the protocol for the creation of the Coastal and River Cruise Network of Sustainable Nautical Destinations in Spain.
The Galician Association of Nautical Activities leads this project in which nine autonomous communities and Ceuta participate.
Sustainability is embarking to navigate the rivers and coastline thanks to a new statewide initiative that has just begun its journey in Galicia. Last Friday, the municipality of Sober, located in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra, was the setting for the signing of the protocol for the creation of the Network of Coastal and River Cruises of Sustainable Nautical Destinations in Spain, a project financed with 2 million euros by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
The project, the fourth best valued of the 237 applicants to the Next Generation European funds, is led by the Galician Association of Nautical Activities (AGAN+) and was created with the intention of developing river and coastal cruises that are complemented by land-based activities to offer the public a more complete and sustainable overview of the territory and combine the enjoyment of nature with other aspects such as heritage, culture or ethnography. Galicia and eight other autonomous communities (Extremadura, Castilla y León, Aragón, the Basque Country, Catalonia, Andalusia, the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands), in addition to the autonomous city of Ceuta, are the ten territories participating in this new network.
The signing of the creation protocol brought together in Sober representatives of the State Administration and the Xunta, such as the Government Delegate in Galicia, José Miñones, and the Director of the Galicia Tourism Agency, Nava Castro. The mayor of Bóveda and president of the Ribeira Sacra-Courel Local Development Group, José Manuel Arias, and the mayor of Sober and president of the Ribeira Sacra Tourism Consortium, Luis Fernández Guitián, also took part in the event, as well as representatives of the rest of the project partners from other communities.
