The Xunta announces a new line of aid for the thermal sector to modernize its facilities

  • These aids will be included in a specific plan before the end of the year
  • Galicia is the second power in Europe in thermalism, generating 19,000 jobs and attracting 190,000 tourists in 2023

Alfonso Rueda, the president of the Xunta, announced in Termatalia that the regional government is finalizing a new line of aid of up to €8 million destined to modernize and improve thermal facilities.

Galicia is the first thermal power in Spain, generating, between direct and indirect, more than 19,000 jobs. Thermalism in our community brings together all the characteristics of the tourism model that the Xunta is committed to: it is a type of sustainable, quality tourism that allows the arrival of travelers to be deseasonalized.

The specific Plan for thermalism is expected to be launched before the end of this year, and will have a line of aid from the Next Generation funds of the European Union.

The creation of a Thermalism Roundtable is also contemplated to promote collaboration between different areas of the Xunta in this field and the creation of a Thermal Observatory to advance in matters of research and professionalization.

These measures would be added to the Territorial Plan for Tourist Sustainability of Thermal Towns and Historic Centers that promotes improvements in thermal areas and has a budget of €21 million until 2026.
