Playa América, located in Nigrán, has been a pioneer in Galicia by becoming the first Smart Beach.
This innovative model of smart beach uses Big Data to monitor different parameters in real time, facilitating the management of resources and minimising the impact of mass tourism.
This beach has incorporated advanced technology to improve issues related to accessibility, sustainability and safety.
Twelve ultrasound sensors installed in the litter bins on the promenade allow their level of fill to be detected, thus optimising their management and cleaning.
There are also strategically located cameras that transmit real-time metadata on the capacity, which makes it easier to control the number of people accessing the sandbank.
Another novelty is the installation of flow meters in the footbaths and showers, which allow monitoring water consumption and detecting possible leaks.
Finally, it has a weather station equipped with: anemometer, weather vane, rain collector, temperature and humidity sensors, UV radiation and barometric pressure. This station offers real-time data, which improves the visitor experience.
