Administration and the tourism sector join forces to recover activity in areas affected by fires

The Xunta will sign an agreement with the Galician Association of Travel Agencies to invest more than 90,000 euros in the creation of 45 tourist packages in O Courel and Valdeorras.

The president of the Cluster, Cesáreo Pardal, took part in a meeting with the director of Galicia Tourism held in Folgoso do Courel.

The municipality of Folgoso do Courel in Lugo was the chosen venue for a meeting today between the director of the Galicia Tourism Agency and representatives of the municipalities and the tourism sector, to discuss measures to restore tourism activity and the socio-economic fabric in general after the forest fires that have affected the regions of O Courel and Valdeorras.

The president of the Galicia Tourism Cluster, Cesáreo Pardal, was one of the participants in this meeting, which was also attended by his counterparts from the Galician Association of Travel Agencies (Agavi), Juan Rivadulla, and the Galician Federation of Rural Tourism (Fegatur), Francisco Xabier Almuíña, as well as various representatives of tourist establishments and services in the areas affected by the fire, and the mayoress of Folgoso do Courel, Lola Castro.

One of the measures already finalised at the meeting is the agreement to be signed by Galicia Tourism and Agavi for the creation of new tourism products to highlight the attractions of these areas. The agreement foresees the development of six categories of tourist packages oriented towards natural areas, ornithological tourism, active tourism and adventure tourism, according to the Xunta de Galicia. In addition, there will be products focused on tangible and intangible heritage, astronomical and industrial tourism, enogastronomy and activities related to the tourist potential of the reservoirs and the Winter Way, among other areas. In total, an investment of more than 90,000 euros is planned for the creation of 45 different tourist packages.

The Xunta stresses that retail travel agencies will thus become important allies in bringing the tourist products and attractions of these areas of inland Galicia to the end customer.
