Galicia prepares to experience its first BIC Entroido

  • Last month the file that began the 24-month procedure to grant this distinction was published in the DOG.

 

The Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG) published last month the resolution with which the procedure for The Galician Entroido has the protection of Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC). It is one of the most unique and deep-rooted traditions of Galicia.

 

With this publication, the Galician Entroido is protected, taking into account the ethnological interest, the social function and the cultural richness of this celebration in its various representations and expressions, as well as its capacity to generate wealth at the local level. Now, there is a maximum of 24 months to complete the file, but its effects are applicable from the publication in the DOG.

 

During the celebration of the international tourism fair, FITUR 2024, the Xunta invited attendees to experience this festivity. The General Director of Culture, Anxo M. Lorenzo, participated in this presentation; the Director of Promotion of the Galician Tourism Agency, Carmen Pita; and representatives of various carnivals of tourist interest.

 

The presentation highlighted this festivity as a central element in the intangible heritage of all Galicians. A celebration of the most genuine and essential to understand and define the identity of Galicia. 61% of Galician town councils, 191 out of 313, have a local holiday on the dates of the Entroido celebration. In addition, the Entroido de Xinzo de Limia, the largest in all of Spain, has the distinction of Festival of International Tourist Interest in Galicia.

 

The protection of the Entroido as a BIC guaranteeing its visibility, documentation, registration, research, preservation, promotion, valorization, transmission and revitalization.
