The Sálvora Island Lighthouse will become a tourist-scientific observation center

  • The member of the executive council of the Cluster, Mar Rodríguez, visited the restoration works last Friday.

The works on the Sálvora Island Lighthouse Revaluation Plan are already underway. Last Thursday, June 6, the member of the executive council of the Cluster, Mar Rodríguez, accompanied the president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda; to the Regional Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Ánxeles Vázquez; and the director of the Galician Tourism Agency, Xosé Merelles, on his visit to these revaluation works.

This action aims to structurally restore the lighthouse, turning it into a tourist-scientific observation center through which a new focus will be given to scientific dissemination and the promotion of the fauna and flora of the environment. The works include the renovation of the exterior finishes, as well as the dome, and the improvement of the energy efficiency of the complex, in which 60 solar panels will be installed.

The objective is to give this space a new use, preserving one of the icons of the Sálvora archipelago, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest of Galicia (BIC), and promoting environmentally friendly tourism. The island of Sálvora has a great environmental wealth: in this area you can see a multitude of winged species, as well as horses, deer, rabbits and marine mammals.

The action is carried out within the framework of the Xacobeo Next Generation Program, launched by the Xunta de Galicia with European funds for the rehabilitation and improvement of 12 Assets of Cultural Interest.
