  • Xosé Merelles highlighted the balanced growth of travelers in the region in Parliament

Tourism in Galicia is moving toward a more sustainable, balanced model that is less dependent on the high season. This was stated by the Director of Tourism of Galicia, Xosé Merelles, during his speech in the Galician Parliament last week, where he reviewed the tourism indicators for the first half of 2025.

Merelles emphasized that, so far this year, Galicia has experienced steady growth in travelers in traditionally lower months such as January (+4%), February (+3%), and May (+4%), as well as a strong rebound in April (+20%) driven by Easter. These figures confirm the deseasonalization of the destination, one of the main objectives of the Galicia Tourism Strategy 2030.

  • Demand decreases during the summer season

Summer demand has dropped three points in the last decade, reaching 29% of travelers and 35% of overnight stays during the summer months in 2024.

All of this is supported by initiatives such as the #DescubreGaliciaenOutono tourist voucher, the Galician Tourist Trains, the Gastronomic Autumn, and the Open Doors Spring, all of which are focused on distributing tourist demand throughout the region and throughout the year.

During his speech, Merelles also noted that, according to data from the Tourism Sustainability Observatory, the Galician hotel sector reached almost €118 million in nominal revenue during the first five months of 2025, 2.9% more than in the same period of the previous year.
