Eight music shows come together to form the Association of Galician Festivals

With the aim of contributing to the professionalization of the sector, increasing a sustainable quality offer with the environment, the Association of Galician Festivals has been constituted. Eight shows are associated in this initiative, the Festival Ribeira Sacra, the Festival SonRías Baixas de Bueu (Pontevedra), Vive Nigrán (Pontevedra); Atlantic Fest de Illa de Arousa (Pontevedra); Revenidas de Vilagarcía de Arousa (Pontevedra); the Festival la Luz de Boimorto and the Work on Sunday Festival of Santiago. Shows that “are not understood as competition”, but “reach collectively where they would not go individually”. The new corporation, as its manager, Xabi Alonso, has pointed out, is born from eight “very different” festivals that give it a “great richness” with which they seek a “greater connection with audiences”. The entity is also a valid interlocutor with the public administration and private entities when it comes to working together to improve the Galician cultural offer and create sustainable tourist attractions in the long term.

In this sense, the promoters of the initiative highlighted that the eight shows involved moved 75,000 people in 2017 with an investment of 1.5 million euros, which makes these festivals in many cases function as “the only tourist attraction for the municipality” in which they are held. However, the task of the organization will be, in the words of its manager, the search “not for a mass festival model, but for a festival responsible with the environment”, so they invited other festivals and associations that meet the professional criteria to join the initiative.
